Should women hockey players apologize for smoking and drinking on ice?

VANCOUVER -- Hockey Canada apologized Thursday for a boozy impromptu party the Olympic women's hockey team threw for itself on the Canada Hockey Place ice after winning the gold medal.

Canadian players, still wearing their uniforms and with gold medals draped around their necks, celebrated their victory by drinking champagne and beer at centre ice following a 2-0 win over the United States.

The International Olympic Committee said it will investigate the celebration, which included drinking by one of Canada's underage players.

In a statement released late Thursday, Hockey Canada apologized.

Do you think it was necessary for Hockey Canada to apologize for the players? Have your say in our forum.

Oh for heavens sakes!!! These women work their butts off all year round, they win the gold, and they finally let loose. They didn't hurt anyone. I'm glad they had some fun. Loosen up people!

First thing Well done ladies and thank you all for once again standing up for Canada. As for the little party what were the press doing there in the first place, its none of there concern. Just know that all of Canada IS VERY PROUD OF YOU ALL.

Appologize? For what? Having fun? Not a chance.

PARTY HARDY GIRLS. TELL THOSE THAT HAVE NEVER LACED ON SKATES FOR A BIG GAME WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR,BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER HAD THE PULSE RACING AND HART POUNDING EXPERIENCE OF THE LAST MINUTE WHEN ALL THAT MATTERS IS NOT MAKING A MISTAKE. THE 1OC AND HOCKEY CANADA CAN NEVER TAKE THAT AWAY.

There are no apologies necessary. The public had left the arena, and the girls deserve to have their celebration. It is the press who should be put down, are ther no other stories to write about or photograph. Had my own daughter had participated I would feel no less of her. These girls have been through a lot in the last few months and to express their feelings in this way does not in any way take away what they have accomplished.

Nope they should not apologize! Good on them for celebrating the Canadian way, I hope the men do the same!

This all happened because a bitter AP reporter from the US didn't like what he was seeing.

The real question should be, "should the IOC apologize?"

What! This happens in every arena across Canada after every tournament played by adult teams. Let them have thier moment of glory on ice or hidden in locker rooms..Canada apoligizes too often already. None should be given and congrats to the girls again. ps: Great pics girls

No - the building was empty, they just won Gold and they weren't rowdy - just savouring the moment. Way to go, women of hockey!

Absolutely not. If the mens team did this, it would not even be mentioned. This is not the first the U,S. press has tried to make a fuss about nothing. What a bunch of whiners. In fact, if the Cdn Men's team wins gold, I hope they do the same thing!
