Should women hockey players apologize for smoking and drinking on ice?
Fri, February 26, 2010

VANCOUVER -- Hockey Canada apologized Thursday for a boozy impromptu party the Olympic women's hockey team threw for itself on the Canada Hockey Place ice after winning the gold medal.

Canadian players, still wearing their uniforms and with gold medals draped around their necks, celebrated their victory by drinking champagne and beer at centre ice following a 2-0 win over the United States.

The International Olympic Committee said it will investigate the celebration, which included drinking by one of Canada's underage players.

In a statement released late Thursday, Hockey Canada apologized.

Do you think it was necessary for Hockey Canada to apologize for the players? Have your say in our forum.

Here goes the media again, play it up for what it’s worth.

Absolutely not! Our girls do not owe anyone an apology.

I understand this is not NHL and Stanley cup, but is it not tradition to celebrate with champagne when the Stanley cup is won? Maybe the girls got carried away a bit. They should be congratulated and not critizised. They deserve every swallow from that bottle and every puff of those Cubans.

As for the underage player drinking. Go girl and enjoy. A very well deserved drink.

As someone who was born in Germany I can only say that my drinking since age 10 has not hurt me at all. It was always with my parents’ consent. I did not turn out to be an alcoholic nor did it steer me in the direction of crime. At the same time I never had the need to experiment with drugs and I am a non smoker.

Under NO circumstance should they apologize they where just having a little fun after working VERY hard. Many people I see here just have to control other people, they would probably critique Jesus if HE came back. Get a life people.

She's not underage in two of Canada's provinces, including where she's from. Should they apologize? Fuggetabowtit! Party on!

I miss the good ol days where every indiscretion wasn't analyzed every which way til Tuesday.

Google IOC Bribery if you want to see a real example of inappropriate.

p.s. I love these girls even more after seeing these photos. It was their moment, not in front of the crowd, so what. Let's keep the attention on what's really important here - their Gold Medal performance!

The team looks like idiots. Too bad they had to ruin the moment. Alcohol, nicotine and sports don't mix.

Thumbs down to them.
