Should women hockey players apologize for smoking and drinking on ice?
Fri, February 26, 2010

VANCOUVER -- Hockey Canada apologized Thursday for a boozy impromptu party the Olympic women's hockey team threw for itself on the Canada Hockey Place ice after winning the gold medal.

Canadian players, still wearing their uniforms and with gold medals draped around their necks, celebrated their victory by drinking champagne and beer at centre ice following a 2-0 win over the United States.

The International Olympic Committee said it will investigate the celebration, which included drinking by one of Canada's underage players.

In a statement released late Thursday, Hockey Canada apologized.

Do you think it was necessary for Hockey Canada to apologize for the players? Have your say in our forum.

NEWS FLASH "A Canadian had a beer". I was under the impression this type of story was only reported on slow news days.

No appology necessary!

When those of you who are complaining about this are able perform such an impressive acheivement on the world stage...soemthing you've worked 4 or more years on, see if you really think having a beer or a cigar is such a big deal. They are NOT in this to be role models...they are ATHLETES and they are human.

No apology necessary. Sport is fun, they won, let them have some fun. We are way too politically correct today.

It must have been a slow news day if this is the best we can do. Enjoy your win. I am proud to call you a role model for my daughters. Well put Anthony, get off your high horses and get a life people.

There is a message here that the women's gold medal hockey team is sending. With all the giddy attention on the millionaire mens hockey fantasy, these women are saying "We are the CHAMPIONS and we're going to let loose after our gruelling training and great victory. And thier level of play in these games was stunning. They made thier old nemesis America look like amateurs. They played at a much more skilled level than any other team. They have set the gold standard. Party on girls.
