Should women hockey players apologize for smoking and drinking on ice?

VANCOUVER -- Hockey Canada apologized Thursday for a boozy impromptu party the Olympic women's hockey team threw for itself on the Canada Hockey Place ice after winning the gold medal.

Canadian players, still wearing their uniforms and with gold medals draped around their necks, celebrated their victory by drinking champagne and beer at centre ice following a 2-0 win over the United States.

The International Olympic Committee said it will investigate the celebration, which included drinking by one of Canada's underage players.

In a statement released late Thursday, Hockey Canada apologized.

Do you think it was necessary for Hockey Canada to apologize for the players? Have your say in our forum.

For everyone complaining about the Girls celebrating, you are pathetic. Do you really have nothing else to complain about? They just won a gold medal at the Olympics against their biggest rival. It wasnt done while the arena was packed, it was done after the fans left and it was just the team. Some AP reporter decides to make a story out of nothing, can't you reporters just once leave a good thing alone and let the girls have their time. Because its going to be a long time before we win a gold medal at home again, cause I'm sure The IOC will make sure Canada doesn't get the winter games for a while now. Bunch of whiners. Good for you Canada.

The IOC is just upset they lost out on another revenue generating opportunity as they didn't sell tickets to the after party.

The ladies worked hard and won the gold. Let them party.

Before the game I said " I wouldn't want to be playing against them, because they are strong Canadian women, and they drink beer!

Good on ya girls. You deserve a little celebration.

Why do Canadians constantly feel that they have to apologize for everything.

Those girls worked their butts off and deserved to celebrate. It was well after the fans left the arena, and not in complete public view.

No one made a stink about Jon Montgomery strutting down the street downing a pitcher of beer after his win.

Double standard if you ask me and somone trying to make something out of absolutely nothing. Shame on you.

No! I wish the press would quit trying to make a story where there is none! Get a life. Way to go girls, have a beer for me, I'll take a pass on the cigar

Three cheers for them, They earned the right to party, just wait for the men's team to win, watch the boys party.

The apology from the Olympic Committee is an INSULT to ALL Canadian teams. If it had been any other team the only that would have been said would have "good job and well earned". Why do Canadians have to apologize for being Canadian to the rest of the world.
