Should women hockey players apologize for smoking and drinking on ice?

VANCOUVER -- Hockey Canada apologized Thursday for a boozy impromptu party the Olympic women's hockey team threw for itself on the Canada Hockey Place ice after winning the gold medal.

Canadian players, still wearing their uniforms and with gold medals draped around their necks, celebrated their victory by drinking champagne and beer at centre ice following a 2-0 win over the United States.

The International Olympic Committee said it will investigate the celebration, which included drinking by one of Canada's underage players.

In a statement released late Thursday, Hockey Canada apologized.

Do you think it was necessary for Hockey Canada to apologize for the players? Have your say in our forum.

The girls have nothing to apologize for ...they just won Olympic Gold. They are a class act through and through...but as in everything there has to be some people that try to take away their celebration.

You can't say what you would do if you won Gold because you'll never experience that moment

Hockey Canada and the IOC should mind their own business, and let the winner's celebrate any way they want. The series was officially over, and the winner declared. Why do they have to get involved in someone elses celebrations? As for underage drinker's, big deal, there was only one and she was eighteen. Who care's. My question to Hockey Canada, the IOC and to Molson's: where the hell in Canada can I buy a jumbo-sized bottle of beer? That is what's on everybody's mind, not some stupid party.

Oh for s--- sakes.....they just won the GOLD medal....whatever....bad judgement call..sure....So the press and IOC are going to rake them over the coals for this.....gimme me a break..I'm sure if any other team won...a similiar situation would have occured......Nothing else to come up with ...How 'bout this.......The CLASSINESS that the crowd gave to the USA when they received their Silver Medal and started chanting USA.....That shows how polite and diplomatic we are......by the way pass me a Canadian while your up...CHEERS GIRLS

Perhaps the IOC bozo who suggested that women's hockey should be nixed at the olympics should offer us an apology instead. Americans like Apollo (I am a god) Ono can boast. Well guess what? So the hell can WE.

I wonder what the IOC's cut of beer sales is at GM Place during the games. They will sell beer to people who have consumed to much already and send them back to the stands to sit beside kids.

Give me a break. The stadium was empty.

i hope and pray, THAT, the IOC acts the same way, WHEN...

OUR BOYS DO THE SAME THING!

(on a side note: is the whole sight of my girls in jubilation...oh i do not know...maybe, UNLADYLIKE, or something!)

THIS IS CANADA - LOOSE AND CAREFREE - AKA LIBERAL...

NOT AMERICA - UPTIGHT AND WAY TOO STIFF - AKA CONSERVATIVE!

re: even though, we have Harper, as our PM, AND...as of right now...

I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH HIM!

Keith Richard lights up & the smoke police are all over him. Please no smoking legal substances at public venues. They're very dangerous substances & cause cancers etc. Now some BC Gold would be very fitting for their victory.

Congratulations to the Canadian Womens Team.

No apology needed. Canadians party when the most significant and happy events of their life come around. The Girls are rightly ok to celebrate having beaten such a strong US ladies Team. Killing off multiple 5 on 3 penalties with nerve wracking minutes to do it. Shutting down the real contenders to their crown. they should be partying up a storm. The US team really made them work for this one. The reporter goof who called the IOC really rained on their parade.
