Dear Joannie,As one of the many Canadians who does not know you personally, but who truly has admired your Olympian talents and efforts, I would like to send you our family's condolences and prayers. Whatever you choose to do, you have already made your mother proud by being a class act. Good luck to you!

Your tears are my tears as my sister was a mother too when she passed away (35 years old). All I can say is it's in the plan....

I would like to wish my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your mother. Right now I am helping a friend who lost her father to a heart attack and 8 days later lost her mother to cancer. It is a very difficult and sad thing to lose a parent, especially just before competition. May you have the strength to continue and know that your mom will be watching you and cheering you on. I, myself, am a recipient of a organ transplant (double lung) and almost died 8 years ago. I thank god and my family and friends for their support and you seem to have that support as well. Be at peace.

Please accept sincere condolences on the sudden passing of your mother. I hope you can gather the strength to skate, and I'm sure your mom would wish you to skate. She will be watching over you, and you will do your mom and yourself proud. Canadians will respect your choices unconditionally in the wake of this tragic event.
