Joannie, my heart goes out to you and your family in your time of sorrow. Should you decide not to compete, we would all understand. Should you compete, believe that your mother will be with you in spirit. All the best in your time of sorrow.

Dearest Joannie,

Only you can truly know the depth of your grief and pain. Your heart will guide you in what you have to do to survive the terrible loss of your mother. In the meantime, please know that you are surrounded by the love and support of the Canadian people, who can only stand in awe of your strength, courage, beauty, and depth of character. May you feel the love surrounding you.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family. Please know that your fans in Canada are supporting you in whatever you decide to do. I lost my Aunt suddenly to a heart attack when she was 50, and my Mother at 63 so I know how devastating it will be for you over the next year. I'm glad that you have people there who have had similar experiences who will understand what you are going through. There will be times of grief, anger denial, and acceptance through your journey. I found having a grief councilor a great help in understanding what I was going through. Lean on those around you when you need to to get yourself through. I truly hope that you will skate but if not we LOVE you JUST THE SAME!

I would not hold it against you if you went home. If my mom died suddenly I'd be unable to function on a high level.

I am writing this from the US, where I saw it in a news story. Please know that the prayers of the world are with you and will be with you as you take the ice. Your mother had to have be so extremely proud of such a wonderful, talented, hard-working young lady. I'm sure Canada is also very proud. Feel our strength and God bless you and your family.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family. Being in the Olympics means you are out there for all to see, however, know that there are 33 million hugs for you as you put on a brave face and tackle your obstacles on the Olympic stage. Know that we are all there for you whatever the outcome. I lost 2 brothers and a father. It is never easy, but with the strength of those around us we pick up the pieces and carry on knowing that they are watching over us in spirit.
