Joannie,

My heart goes out to you and I offer you my most heartfelt and deepest sympathies.

I lost my mother quite unexpectedly a little over a year ago and I think about her every day. Though we'd had a rocky relationship for roughly 10 years before she passed away, we had just started mending fences and having a mother-son relationship again. It was a very rough period in my life when she passed away.

I am glad you have some good friends and your father with you in Vancouver and you have the support of Canadians from across the country.

Best of luck with your Olympic efforts and remember that your mother will be there with you through the entire skate.

Sincerely,

Kevin M
