Who would you pick for Team Canada?
Thu, February 12, 2009

With only a year to go before the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Steve Yzerman and his management group are already busily scouting players for the roster.

Everyone has an opinion about who Yzerman should name to the team next winter. Here's your chance to pick your own version of Team Canada that will hit the ice in Vancouver next winter.

Who would be your pick to start in net for Team Canada? Which defencemen would you take to anchor the blueline? Which forwards do you think are a lock to play in Vancouver next February?

We'll limit the roster to 21 players -- 12 forwards, six defencemen and three goaltenders -- and we'll give you some help by providing the names of 40 Canadian players who should be given serious consideration.

Forwards

Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh); Joe Thornton (San Jose); Jarome Iginla (Calgary); Vincent Lecavalier (Tampa Bay); Rich Nash (Columbus); Ryan Getzlaf (Anaheim); Jeff Carter (Philadelphia); Mike Richards (Philadelphia); Dany Heatley (Ottawa); Shane Doan (Phoenix); Patrick Marleau (San Jose); Marc Savard (Boston); Simon Gagne (Philadelphia); Jonathan Toews (Chicago); Martin St. Louis (Tampa Bay); Eric Staal (Carolina); Ryan Smyth (Colorado); Jason Spezza (Ottawa); Milan Lucic (Boston); Corey Perry (Anaheim); Todd Bertuzzi (Calgary); Brendan Morrow (Dallas); Mike Cammalleri (Calgary).

Defencemen

Dion Phaneuf (Calgary); Chris Pronger (Anaheim); Jay Bouwmeester (Florida); Dan Boyle (San Jose); Shea Weber (Nashville); Scott Niedermayer (Anaheim); Mike Green (Washington); Brian Campbell (Chicago); Robyn Regehr (Calgary); Brent Burns (Minnesota); Sheldon Souray (Edmonton).

Goaltenders

Roberto Luongo (Vancouver); Marty Turco (Dallas); Steve Mason (Columbus); Martin Brodeur (New Jersey); Carey Price (Montreal); Cam Ward (Carolina).

Here's your chance to have your say. Tell us who you think should go for gold in Vancouver.

thorton, nash, and pronger (the europeans skated circles around pronger), last olympics weren't productive point wise. nhl is different from olympics. i'd say pass on them and bring in more speed. i'd put on sharp and tavares as well; last olympics we should have put on crosby and we might be making the same mistake. lastly, with little time to make chemistry, it's better to get linemates and teammates in there.

I am totally shocked at the lack of support or choices for Goaltender Marc Andre Fleury of the Pittsburg Penguins, He is the Goalie of the Stanley Cup Champions and thrives on pressure, in my opinion he is the only chance Team Canada has of winning Gold in 2010.

Just look at last years performance of Luongo & Brodeur in last years playoffs.

Come on lets get with the program here, i just hope the Stevie Y & Co. have more of an insight than the writers of these blogs, into who he will pick for the Goalie of Team Canada 2010.

Fleury is my choice for Goalie, and that position is the one that will determine how far Team Canada will go, to many people make a choice with their Hearts and not their Heads, Marc Andre Fleury is my choice, or Gold is gone.

I would add the 4500 military personnel who will be there for the security along with the RCMP and the private security firm. All told the salaries equal those of the NHL elite who will be playing this farce tournament. 900 million for the games from the Prov / Fed govt. What a joke.

How serious are you when your selection list for defencemen includes Sheldon Souray? I've seen more mobile fireplugs.
