Is Bosh doing the right thing by putting the U.S. team ahead of the Raptors?
Tue, June 24, 2008

Toronto's franchise player, forward Chris Bosh, will get a shot at Olympic glory with the star-studded American basketball team.

Bosh will join NBA royalty like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant. And the Americans will have a chip on their shoulders after a third-place showing in Athens four years ago.

But Bosh has a history of injury trouble in recent years so playing extra games at the Olympics. The last thing the Raptors need is another Jorge Garbajosa situation. Garbajosa was injured late in the 2006-07 NBA season but played for Spain in the World Championship. As a result, he missed all of last season and has been bought out by the Raps.

Thats why amateurs should only go. He has a contract worth millions of dollars to do the best for the raptors. Now he could get injured or be very tired during the home run stretch for the Raptors. Make your choice, Olympic gold or professional. Seems they want it all but if the team owner asks for money back if bosh isn't 100% who gets made out to be the bad guy?

Steve nash chose his contract. Right move

Hoopster.. isn't playing at the olympics a form of getting in shape. As far I can see, Bosh will be in great shape come the new season. Remember Vernon Wells played at the World Baseball chamionships a few years back and has the best start of his career and had a great personal year.

Oh please, this is the Olympics. EVERYONE should put their country ahead of their pro team. Doesn't matter what sport it is. And don't give me that lame "team pays your salary therefore they take precedence" party line that NBA clubs throw around. The countries give the players their citizenships which is far more important than money. Bosh is answering the call for his country, good for him. He is not going to log heavy minutes anyway, as mentioned before (unlike Calderon, who will likely play the entire game for Spain most nights) and he is perfectly healthy (unlike Garbojosa was last year).

By playing for the U.S. team at the Olympics, Bosh has clearly indicated his priorities don't lie with the Raptors. He should take the entire summer to prepare for the coming NBA season and go to training camp in the best possible shape he can. I see him wearing down, or getting hurt, before February.

You can't worry about injuries to players.

Bosh will see some time on the bench as the U.S. has too many all-stars playing.
