Dan Roycroft can literally be considered the brains of the Canadian cross-country skiing team.

Roycroft, who grew up in Hunstville, Ontario, first strapped on the skis in the ninth grade and raced at the Junior Nationals by age 17. He attended the renowned National Team Development Centre in Thunder Bay, Ontario and after completing a degree in computer science, Roycroft moved to Canmore, Alberta to train full-time with the Canadian national team.

His career highlights to date include a 31st-place finish in the 50km race at the 2005 World Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, and a 37th-place finish early in the 2005-06 season in the 30km pursuit at a World Cup event in Vernon, BC.

Although he may not be the top skier for Team Canada, Roycroft contributes far more than just results in the standings. Dan is an accomplished photographer, and his pictures can be seen on the Cross Country Canada website. He also owns and operates his own software company, Zone4 Systems, which creates premiere training software used by the Canadian team. His programs, iLog (Internet Training Log) and the Zone4 Race Timing system are now essential parts of the day-to-day training of Canada's cross-country skiers.

Roycroft may not be a top contender for Team Canada at the Turin Games, but his contribution to the success of his teammates will not be forgotten.
