At age 28, Chris Jeffries is one of the older members of the Canadian men's cross-country ski team. Yet, like the rest of the inexperienced group, he's making his Olympic debut in Turin.
Jeffries has emjoyed plenty of success on the Canadian circuit, yet he's had trouble cracking the top half of the standings internationally. In 2004, at the Haywood Canada Cup, Jeffries captured the gold medal in the 15 km skate event. He finished above Canadian teammates Devon Kershaw and Drew Goldsack with a time of 34:58.8. Then in November of 2005 at a NorAm Cup event, Chris won another gold medal -- this time in the sprint competition. It was Jeffries' first medal of the 2005-2006 season
On the international level, Jeffries' top finishes to date were this season at a World Cup event in Vernon, BC. Chris had a 34th-place finish in the sprint and a matching 34th-place finish in the pursuit. Prior to Vernon, Jeffries career international best was in 2003 at a World Cup event in Drammen, Norway, where he finished 39th overall in the men's sprint.
With age and experience on his side, Jeffries should have a decent outing at the Turin Games -- especially in long distance events.
