Growing up the daughter of ski patrollers in Whistler, it's not too surprising Erin Simmons' parents had her on skis when she was just two-years-old. However, like most kids hanging out on the slopes in Whistler, snowboarding came calling soon enough. By age 12, Simmons was on a board and that was pretty much the end of her skiing career.

Simmons competed in her first World Cup snowboardcross race in her hometown of Whistler in 2002, finishing in 11th-place. It would be two more years before she would end up on the World Cup circuit full-time. During the 2003-04 campaign, she raced in eight snowboardcross events, finishing with five Top-10 results, including an amazing third-place in Japan.

During the 2004-05 season, she would utilize her aggressive riding style to help her pick up a silver medal in Lake Placid, NY, as well as two other sixth-place finishes in races in Sweden and Spain.

The current season has been good to Simmons: She's scored two more podium finishes thanks to a pair of bronze medals from races in her old stomping ground of Whistler.

Unlike many athletes, Simmons enjoys traveling far and wide to compete. The experience of going to an Olympic event thus becomes extremely special for the talented rider.
