SUN Prediction: Silver Medal in the 500M and relay

The veteran of the Canadian men's short track team, Eric Bedard is in his ninth year on the national team, a stint that includes two previous appearances at the Winter Games.

That experience, coupled with a large helping of talent, is the biggest thing he'll have going for him in Turin.

"I know what I need to do to have success at the Olympics," Bedard told Speed Skating Canada's website. "I know the tactics of my main opponent. It won't be necessarily the strongest skater that wins, but the one that is the most clever."

Not only has Bedard reached the Olympic podium before, but he also has been Canada's most successful short tracker on the World Cup circuit this season.

He has won World Cup silver medals in Seoul, Korea, in October, and Bormio, Italy, in November, both in the 500.

He also has helped Canada to a couple of bronze medals in the relay this season.

A youth hockey goalie who idolized NHLer and fellow Canadian Olympian Martin Brodeur, Bedard will try to help the relay team to a third consecutive Olympic gold.

The relay is the only event he qualified for at Salt Lake City, but this time he's back for a shot at the 500M and the 1000M, the latter being the event in which he won bronze in Nagano, in '98.
