Just 22 years of age, Vincent Labrie is one of the young upstarts of the Canadian long track speed skating squad heading into Turin this year.

Specializing in the sprint events, Labrie skated in his first international World Cup event just this past November, and he will be treating this first Olympic appearance as a tremendous learning opportunity.

Previously, he was a fixture on the junior national squad, and remains the Canadian record holder for overall sprint points. He also finished third in the 500m, and fourth in the 1000m during last year's Canada Cup Circuit.

In his short World Cup career, Labrie has already made an impact, finishing 20th in the 500m and 23rd in the 1000m at the World Cup event in Salt Lake City in November of 2005. He quickly improved on those results, earning two ninth-place finishes at the same distances later that month at the World Cup in Milwaukee.

Away from the rink, Labrie enjoys playing the drums, listening to music, and tinkering with antique automobiles.

Born on Valentine's Day in 1983, Labrie will be celebrating his 23rd birthday at the Olympic Games this year and will no doubt do his best to romance the crowd at the Lingotto Oval in Turin 2006.
