Like many freestyle skiers, Chris Wong grew up idolizing Quebec legend Jean-Luc Brassard. Although Wong began skiing at the tender age of three, he did not start freestyle until he was 13-years-old in 1994, the same year Brassard tore up the Olympic slopes in Lillehammer, Norway, en route to a gold medal.
For a while this season it was touch and go whether Wong would be making the trip to Turin. Fortunately, a fourth-place finish in a moguls race in late January at Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, sealed his berth on the team. It was the fourth Top-10 of the season for the BC native, who comes to the Games as the ninth-ranked moguls skier on the World Cup circuit. Prior to this season, Wong had only three career Top-10 finishes in World Cup events.
Wong has enjoyed good fortune at the Canadian Championships over the past few years, finishing second in the dual moguls event at the 2005 event and third at the 2003 event.
Most of his recent training has taken place in Whistler, BC, which should help him if he manages to remain on the team until 2010, when the Games will shift to his backyard in Whistler and Vancouver.
When not training or racing, Wong likes to unwind by playing soccer and ping pong.
