After three years of competing for Canada on the World Cup circuit, Stephanie St-Pierre is finally making her debut on the Olympic stage. The 20-year-old from Victoriaville, Quebec, began skiing at the age of three and joined the freestyle team at Mont Ste-Anne at the age of nine. She has since been competing on the Mont Ste-Anne team, the Quebec team, the National Development team, the World Cup team and of course, most recently, the Olympic team.
St-Pierre has enjoyed plenty of success on the international level with multiple Top-10 finishes on the World Cup circuit, including a first-place result at Mont-Tremblant in 2004. At the 2005 World Championships in Ruka, Finland, she finished ninth overall, a step down from her third-place finish at the 2003 World Championships in Deer Valley, Utah. Unfortunately she had to miss the 2004 World Championships due a torn ACL that would later require surgery.
Late in 2005, Stephanie had the benefit of competing on the test mogul hill in Turin. She impressed the judges and finished a very strong second place.
During the current World Cup season, St-Pierre has shown no fear while notching seven Top-10 results, including a silver medal-winning performance in Lake Placid, NY.
Despite her youth and relative lack of experience, St-Pierre has shown her competitive drive and natural ability on the moguls hills. If all goes well for St-Pierre in Italy, a podium finish is a real possibility.
