Like many aerial skiers, Amber Peterson began her athletic career in the world of competitive trampoline.
Amber, who has been competing on the World Cup circuit since the 2002-03 campaign, joins the likes of cross-country skier Sean Crooks, nordic combined/ ski jumper Jason Myslicki, women's hockey star Katie Weatherston and men's hockey phenom Eric Staal as Olympic athletes hailing from Thunder Bay, Ontario.
In her debut campaign, she finished with a respectable 22nd-place ranking, and then made the climb to 19th one year later in 2003-04.
After grabbing her first-ever World Cup medal, a silver in January of 2006 in Lake Placid, Peterson launched herself into 10th-place overall for the 2005-06 season. At her World Championship debut at Ruka, Finland in 2005, Amber grabbed a 15th-place result.
At the domestic level, Peterson has enjoyed plenty of success. In 2003, she finished third at the Canadian Championships. One year later, still during the Canadian Championships, she upped her ranking to second place and followed that up at the Nor-Am Cup in Fortress Mountain, Alberta, with a bronze medal.
Although Peterson has enjoyed some recent success on the World Cup circuit, winning a medal in Turin won't be easy. However, it should be a tremendous learning experience for the young skier who likely has her eye on an Olympic berth in Vancouver in four years.
