The reigning World Cup champion, Omischl should follow that up with a podium finish in Turin.

Since making his Olympic debut in Salt Lake City in 2002, where he finished 11th, Omischl has taken the World Cup circuit by storm.

He has won nine events and finished on the podium another 15 times and in 2003-04 was ranked No. 1 in the world.

He finished the 2004-05 season ranked No. 2, but did capture the 2005 world championship at Ruka, Finland and also won a pre-Olympic test in Sauze d'Oulx, Italy.

What could hamper his chances is a foot injury that kept him from competition in the early part of this World Cup season.

However, he finished third in a World Cup event in China this past December in just his second competition since returning.

Having grown up in North Bay, Omischl has been skiing since he was four and was inspired to take up freestyle after watching the likes of Jeff Bean and Veronica Brenner compete in his hometown.
