Teenager Alexandre Bilodeau has exploded onto the World Cup circuit during his rookie freestyle season in 2005-06.
In particular, his amazing performances since Christmas have the entire circuit buzzing. He has won twice, at Mont-Gabriel, QC, and in Spinderluv Mlyn, Czech Republic. He also has a silver from a race in Lake Placid, NY, as well as two other Top-6 results.
His excellent season has him ranked as the number two moguls skier on tour going into the Turin Games. His fearlessness at attempting difficult jumps has been a big part of his rookie success.
After last season, Bilodeau realized that to fully realize his potential he would have to focus on either moguls or aerials. Fortunately for the moguls team, he chose them.
Prior to his breakout season, Bilodeau had noted the 2003 Canadian Junior Championships, where he swept the gold in moguls, dual moguls and aerials, as the highlight of his young career. His instant success, while competing against the big boys on the World Cup circuit this year has probably provided Bilodeau with some new career highlights, but all of those will pale in comparison should everything go right for the sizzling youngster in Turin.
