When Jean-Philippe Le Guellec joined the biathlon development squad for 2010 as a 14-year-old in 2000, nobody actually thought that he would be ready for the 2006 Turin Games. So it comes as a pleasant surprise that the 20-year-old has earned himself a spot on the team bound for Italy.

Even if the native of Shannon, Quebec didn't start racing biathlon until he was 13, his rise in the sport has nevertheless been meteoric. In 2003, his first year on the National Junior Team, Le Guellec finished 26th, 33rd and 33rd respectively in the 7.5 km Sprint, 12.5 km Individual and 10 km Pursuit at the Junior/Youth World Championships in Poland.

One year later, he would take the overall title at the Junior/Youth World Championships in France with a first, second and fourth respectively in the 7.5 km Sprint, the 10 km Pursuit and 12.5 km Individual. This was an amazing accomplishment for a non-European and earned Le Guellec Biathlon Canada's Best Male of the Year award.

In 2005, LeGuellec claimed two golds and a silver one at the Senior Canadian Championships, forcing Biathlon Canada brass to add him to the senior team for the 2005-06 season. He started off the year with a 71st place showing at a 10 km sprint in Sweden, immediately proving he is ready to make the jump to compete with the world's best.
