Bourque pleased with start

TURIN, Italy -- Francois Bourque finished 27th in the first downhill training run in Sestriere yesterday, finishing nearly four seconds off the pace of American leader Daron Rahlves.

Manuel Osborne-Paradis of North Vancouver finished 36th, John Kucera of Calgary was 43rd and Ryan Semple of Mont Tremblant, Que. 54th. Training on the icy course continues today for tomorrow's race in which Austrians Hermann Maier and Michael Walchhofer are favoured.

American Bode Miller was 16th.

"It's not that bad for my first time down the slope," said Bourque, a New Richmond, Que., product who has a shot at medalling in the super-G and slalom events.
