24 Seconds with Erin Simmons
By BOB MACKIN -- 24 Hours Vancouver

West Vancouver's Erin Simmons is training for Friday's Olympic debut of snowboardcross - a four-person race down the slope.

24 hours: You're in a sport where concentration is key. Describe your strategy.

Erin Simmons: "You've got to think of many things, the challenging course as well as the three girls beside you. It's definitely a head game. You've got to pull out strong and keep the lead."

24: Have you raced in Italy before?

Simmons: "A few years ago. I went through the fence in time trials ... in Bardonecchia. It's a cute little village. (It) definitely had good pizza and pasta."

24: Your favourite food is sushi. Where's the best spot in Vancouver?

Simmons: "I go to Tanpopo on Denman, because it's all you can eat. I like the tuna and salmon."

24: How did you get nicknamed 'Bubbles?'

Simmons: "All the kids down in Steamboat Springs, Colo., that my husband Kevin coaches call me Bubbles because of the Powerpuff Girls. I have blonde hair and blue eyes and that's what that Bubbles girl has."
