PHILADELPHIA -- After surrendering a two-goal lead to the Philadelphia
Flyers for the second time in less than a week, it was the New York
Rangers who came out on top as Jaromir Jagr scored the decisive goal
at 1:24 of the extra period to give the Rangers a 4-3 victory.
The Rangers re-captured the top spot in the Atlantic Conference from
the Flyers who have now lost for the eighth time in their last 11
contests.
The victory may prove costly to the Rangers who lost rookie phenom
Petr Prucha in the second period following a hit along the boards.
Prucha left the ice early in the second period following a hit by
Flyers forward Turner Stevenson.
"I don't know what happened," said Stevenson. "I was just going for a
hit and he stopped. I didn't even think I got a piece of him."
In 49 games with the Rangers this season, Prucha has 25 goals and 9
assists while leading the NHL with a 26.3 shooting percentage.
He is second on the team with 12 powerplay goals, two behind Jaromir
Jagr.
Prucha, seen leaving the Wachovia Center on crutches, told reporters
that he suffered an injury to the medial collateral ligament of his
right leg.
According to Prucha, he will undergo a MRI tomorrow or Monday and
preliminary estimates indicate that he will miss approximately 4-6
weeks pending the results of further diagnostic studies.
The 5-11 rookie was slated to represent the Czech Republic in the
Turin Olympics later this month.
"Obviously, I feel bad," added Stevenson. "I'm not out there trying
to hurt any kid. Hopefully he's alright."
