If you could ignore the Australian accent, hearing Ryan Briscoe talk about the Honda Indy Toronto you would swear he must be a local lad the way he praises the annual speedfest by the lake.

Briscoe just loves coming back to Toronto every summer for the race on the temporary Exhibition Place street course.

He has had some success here as well, with a second-place finish in 2009 and a top-10 finish in 2011.

Briscoe’s last two attempts at the 11-turn 2.824 km track were not so good, wrecking in both.

However it has not soured his affection for the race.

“It is just so much fun coming to Toronto,” Briscoe said in a phone interview from his Mooresville, N.C. home. “First the fans are knowledgeable and appreciate good racing; secondly it is one of the most challenging circuits on the schedule.

“I love that fact that the whole city gets behind the race.”
