MONTREAL - It was a stunning reversal of form for the powerhouse Mercedes Formula 1 team of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton at the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday.

And it was an equally stunning win for Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo for Red Bull, a team that up until Sunday seemed destined to start a complete rebuild after four consecutive world championships with Sebastian Vettel at the controls.

Rosberg and Hamilton had pulled out to a seemingly insurmountable 28 second lead over the rest of the grid at the half-way point in the 70-lap race on the 13-turn, 4.261-km road course on Ile Notre-Dame.

Three laps later, however, Hamilton reported he was losing power and one lap after that an equally alarming message was coming from Rosberg.

Ten laps after that Hamilton’s day was over when the brakes on his Mercedes were cooked.
