Kimi Raikkonen will come to Canada this week hoping to end a dreadful string of sad finishes to start the 2014 Formula 1 world championship.

His return to Ferrari this season was expected to result in a fierce battle for points with his teammate Fernando Alonso, but so far, that fight is a non-starter.

Raikkonen, with six grands prix already in the books, is a distant 12th on the leaderboard, an almost insurmountable 44 points behind Alonso, who sits third in the championship.

It comes after not getting a single podium finish this season and two seventh-place finishes as his best results.

Raikkonen takes solace in the fact that in too many races this season he has been the victim of bad luck more than anything else.

There have been a pair of near wrecks racing with rookie McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen and another when Marussia’s Max Chilton slammed into him last week at Monaco.
