A Tennessee woman has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing her husband because she said he was worshipping NASCAR.

Police said Stephanie Hamman called Steve Hamman Sunday after she crashed her car into the church across the street from their apartment, 6 News reported.

He found her lying in front of the altar and she told him: "The devil is in me" before allegedly stabbing him in the chest with a large kitchen knife.

Police said Hamman pulled the knife out of his chest and walked back to their apartment.

When officers arrived, Stephanie said she was frustrated because her husband was worshipping the NASCAR race and she worried the devil was putting thoughts into her head.

She said she thought taking personal items to the church would help her feel better, but the doors were locked, according to police.

"God told me he wanted me in there, so I drove my car through the front doors," she said.

She has also been charged with felony vandalism.
