Alright, now that all the hoopla of Daytona is behind us, it was nice to see the regular NASCAR Sprint Cup season get started at the oddly named The Profit on CNBC 500K — whatever the heck that is — at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday.
And if history is any gauge, then Kevin Harvick, the winner in the Arizona desert in he No. 4 Stewart Haas Racing Chevrolet, will be there in November battling for the Sprint Cup trophy at Homestead Miami Speedway.
I know it’s only two races into a 36-race schedule, but March race winners at Phoenix and next week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway show up near the top of the standings with unusual regularity at the end of the season.
Harvick’s win is also reminiscent of Matt Kenseth last season after he moved from Roush Fenway Racing — his only Cup team to that point — to Joe Gibbs Racing.
All he did for the rest of that season was win seven times and nearly stopped Jimmie Johnson from taking his sixth championship.
