Ten years after his first Daytona 500 victory Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Great American Race on Sunday in the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

NASCAR’s most popular driver survived a six hour, 21 minute and 40 second rain delay, a tornado warning, three big wrecks and overtime, to win in a green, white, checkers finish.

And he did on a day that his father’s famous No. 3 black Chevrolet made its return to Daytona, 14 years after the tragic crash that took his life, with rookie Austin Dillon behind the wheel.

Officially the race ended under caution after a fourth multi car crash happened behind the winner on the final turn of the final lap.
