The first thing you need to know is that Toyota — since coming to the NASCAR Sprint Cup series in 2007 — has never won a championship and has never won a Daytona 500.

All that could change on Sunday afternoon if Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Camry, and Matt Kenseth, driver of the No. 20 JGR Camry, keep their winning streaks alive.

Hamlin, coming off a 2013 where he missed almost a third of the season after a vicious wreck at California’s Auto Club Speedway, is 2-for-2 at Daytona International Speedway so far this week and Kenseth won his half of the Budweiser Duels on Thursday.

“Once that snowball starts to roll it’s hard to stop it and right now we’re just on a heck of a run,” Hamlin said.

Hamlin’s wining streak actually dates back to the final race of 2013 at Homestead Miami Speedway and he said after winning the first of the Duels races Thursday that his sights are firmly set on winning his and Toyota’s first Daytona 500.
