Exactly one year ago Brad Keselowski began his NASCAR Sprint Cup championship season as the toast of speed town.

He was viewed as a breath of fresh air, a worthy challenger to the domination that Jimmie Johnson and the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet team that had five championships already and were gunning for a sixth.

It wasn’t long into the 2013 season, however, that the wheels started to come off of the No. 2 Penske Racing Ford team.

Keselowski, who turns 30 on Wednesday, had a series of missteps that cast doubts whether he could get back to being the consistent driver and team that won Roger Penske his lone Sprint Cup championship so dramatically in 2012.

Keselowski would end the 2013 season out of the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship before it even started making him only the second driver to miss NASCAR’s post-season in his championship year.
