Advantage Jimmie Johnson.

After 500 miles at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, Johnson drove a mistake free race to take over the top spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship in the No. 48 Chevrolet.

He will go into the penultimate race of the season at Phoenix next week with a seven-point lead over Matt Kenseth and the No. 20 Toyota team.

It all came down to mistakes at Texas, Kenseth made one big one — speeding on pit lane at lap 173 — and Johnson didn’t make any.

Kenseth, however, can’t be disappointed. If someone had told him prior to the start of the Chase eight races ago that he would be just seven back of Johnson with two races left, he would have taken it in a heart beat.
