It was a day late but there was nothing shy about the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series championship race at Kawartha Speedway Sunday.

Scott Steckly won both the Pinty’s 250 and the championship in overtime at the .375-mile oval in the No. 22 Canadian Tire Dodge.

In fact there were three cautions in the final 25 laps and at each one Steckly managed to hold off D.J. Kennington in the No. 17 Castrol Edge Dodge, his chief rival for the series championship trophy.

It got so that Steckly starting thinking maybe someone didn’t want him to become the first three-time winner of the NCATS.

“I was thinking NASCAR wanted someone else to win,” he said as he got out of his car in Victory Lane.

But when the points were finally tallied, Steckly’s totalled 473 to 471 for Kennington — the closest margin of victory in NCATS history.
