There is little doubt that Carlo Fidani and Ron Fellows want this weekend’s Chevrolet Silverado 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series to knock the socks off not only race fans, but also the NASCAR bosses down at Daytona Beach, Fla.
You see, the co-owners of Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (formerly Mosport), have a vision far beyond the first NCWTS race in Canada.
While Fellows was careful not to come right out and say it in a phone interview Wednesday, the plan is to bring NASCAR’s No. 2 national touring series — the Nationwide Series — to the 3.757-km road course north of Bowmanville, Ont.
And if they can put 40,000 or so fans through the gates on Sunday, it certainly will get their name in the mix the next time NASCAR president Mike Helton and his boardroom full of executives sit down to plan the 2014 season.
