BROOKLYN, MICH. - The so-called Race to the Chase has been going full tilt for the past month but after the Pure Michigan 400 it became a process of elimination.

And although still mathematically eligible, the biggest name who is likely out is four-time champion Jeff Gordon, who finished 17th in the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet on Sunday, dropping him from 13th and a chance to 14th and little or no chance.

With three races remaining, Gordon would have to win at least two of them to save his season. Another driver who may be on the outside looking in is Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 56 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota.
