The results of Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 at the Watkins Glen International road course very likely will cause a dramatic change in the complexion of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.

There are only four races left until the Chase starts at Chicagoland Speedway on Sept. 15 and as of now three of NASCAR’s biggest stars — Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin — all could be on the outside looking in when it gets under way.

Stewart and Hamlin, for certain, won’t be part of the 12 drivers in the Chase.

Hamlin’s chances went out the window when he was forced to miss four points-races earlier this season after suffering a fractured vertebrae in a wreck involving Joey Logano at California Speedway.

Stewart, of course, is out with a broken leg after a crash during a sprint car race at Southern Iowa Speedway a week ago and he could miss the rest of the season.
