INDIANAPOLIS - OK, all you Jimmie Johnson haters out there should stop reading this column right now because you are not going to like what I am about to say: Johnson is the best stock car driver ever — better than “The King” Richard Petty and better than “The Intimidator” Dale Earnhardt.

And if he wins the Samuel Deeds 400 at the Brickyard on Sunday — where he’ll start on the front row with qualifying lap of 187.438 m.p.h. — he’ll pass IndyCar legends A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Sr. and Rick Mears as the only driver to do win five times on four wheels at the world’s most famous oval.

Johnson’s five consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup championships are also unprecedented and he was in contention for his sixth right up to the final race last season at Homestead Miami Speedway.
