Alex Tagliani is being replaced at Bryan Herta/Barracuda Racing starting with a test next week at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Circuit.

The veteran Tagliani is suffering through one of his worst seasons in the IZOD IndyCar Series with a best finish of 10th at Toronto two weeks ago and in the opening race at St. Petersburg, with seven finishes of 19th or worse in 13 races.

The team announced Friday Italian driver Luca Filippi will test the No. 98 Honda at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course next Wednesday.

In a release, the team said Tagliani would remain under contract until the end of the 2013 season.

“Alex Tagliani will step out of the No. 98 Barracuda Racing car but will remain under contract to the team through the end of the 2013 season,” it said.

Tagliani was quoted as saying he sees the benefit of the move.

“It’s never fun for a driver to not be in the car,” he said.

"But I see the benefit in racing in a team with a teammate as opposed to being a single car team. In this sport, things can turn around quickly."
