He was cheered by the crowd and briefly bitched at by teammate Marco Andretti.

It was that type of glass-half-full, half-empty day for Oakville’s James Hinchcliffe who, to be fair, was encouraged by his eighth-place finish at Saturday’s Race 1 of the Toronto Indy doubleheader.

He had reason to be.

Too many times this IndyCar season, Hinchcliffe has been either a hero or a zero when the checkered flag waved. Through the first 12 events of 2013, he failed to finish four races. That works out to 33% of his starts.
