He’s either getting a champagne shampoo in the IndyCar penthouse or mired in deep frustration in racing’s outhouse.

Such has been the 2013 season for James Hinchcliffe.

One week, he’s the top of the heap.

The next, he’s down at the bottom of the barrel.

And when all is said and done, the Oakville native is getting tired of this racing roller-coaster.

“It kind of sucks,” Hinchcliffe concluded on Thursday.

“The wins are so good, but the other days are so disappointing. We’ve had more of the latter than the former. If you look at the guys up front — guys like Helio (Castroneves) and Marco (Andretti) — they’ve had a lot more consistency.”

The good: In 12 outings, he has won three races, those coming in St. Petersburg, Brazil and Iowa.

The bad: In those dozen races, he has failed to finish four of them, which equates to 33% of his starts.
