At about 7 p.m. Monday, parts of Lake Shore Blvd. — or, in this case, the Lakeshore River — looked more conducive to hosting a jet ski race than an IndyCar event.

And Charlie Johnstone knew it.

“When you see places on Lake Shore that has waste-deep water, of course you are going to be concerned,” said Johnstone, the vice-president and general manager of Honda Indy Toronto.

“Actually, there was as much concern about the wind and the possible damage it might do.”
