A race-track worker was killed Sunday after he slipped under the wheel of the crane at the end of the event. Officials reported the man was escorting the crane as it moved Gutierrez's Sauber car, dropped his radio, stumbled while attempting to pick it up and was hit and run over by the recovery vehicle. MONTREAL - The surgeon who treated a Grand Prix marshal who died following an on-track incident recalled the terrible task of breaking the news to his parents.

The 38-year-old volunteer was crushed by a crane truck that was removing an immobilized car from the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday afternoon.

There was nothing medical staff could do to save the man, Grand Prix deputy medical officer Ronald Denis said.
