TORONTO - What do hockey fans and stock car racing fans have in common?

Apparently lots according to Michigan International Speedway boss Roger Curtis.

MIS has done studies that show an incredible percentage of the 200,000 or so NASCAR fans who purchase tickets to the two summer Sprint Cup races at the two-mile oval are also rabid hockey fans.

It is part of the reason Curtis and his team target Canadians in campaigns luring them to the Brooklyn, Mich., race track.

“It is just good business,” Curtis said.

In fact there were rumours that Michigan International Speedway was even being considered as an option to the University of Michigan’s Big House for next season’s NHL Winter Classic game between the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

A nice bit of wishful thinking, perhaps, but Curtis is deadly serious about wanting Canadians to make MIS their destination of choice when it comes to NASCAR racing.
