TORONTO - Anyone out there in IZOD IndyCar Series fan land who hasn’t already figured out why former boss Randy Bernard got fired after last season needs to tune in to the Chevrolet Indy Dual Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Saturday and Sunday.

The concept of holding back-to-back races on successive day — there are two more on the 2013 calendar including the Honda Indy Toronto — should have been laughed off the table the moment it was proposed.

The teams hate it, the crews hate it and the drivers hate it, so Bernard’s response was let’s do it anyway.

Canada’s own James Hinchcliffe said it best a few weeks ago when he was in Toronto to help promote the Honda Indy.

“Usually I start to hydrate at the beginning of the week before in Toronto to prepare for the heat and the physicality of a summer street race,” he said. “I am not going to be able to do that (between races) this year. It is going to be tough.”
