Louis-Philippe Dumoulin is hardly a rookie, but in only his second NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season he took his No. 47 Dodge to victory circle at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park on Sunday.
L-P, as he is best known, is a veteran sports car racer who has more than five seasons of racing experience racing in the Rolex Grand Am Series and a championship in the F-1600 series, but Sunday was his first major series win in front of more than 30,000 stock car racing fans at the NCATS season opener on the 3.9-km Grand Prix course.
Dumoulin can thank the racing gods when in the first 12 laps, his two biggest challengers — J.R. Fitzpatrick and Scott Steckly — were both out of the race.
Fitzpatrick, who started on the pole and has three wins at the former Mosport track in the No. 84 Chevrolet, lost a drive shaft on Lap 8 while two-time series champion Steckly spun into the Turn 3 tire barrier on Lap 11 wrecking his No. 22 Dodge.
