It was an unfamiliar scene for 26-year-old James Hinchcliffe at Barber Motorsports Park on Friday.

At a media event at the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama, the Oakville native was standing at the back of the room when it was announced the IZOD IndyCar Series championship points leader was next on the podium.

Hinchcliffe looked around as if to see who would step forward.

I think he actually was waiting for someone else to go to the microphone.

Of course, he knew he was that points leader, by virtue of his first IndyCar victory two weeks ago at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Now the glare of the television cameras was on him.

If there is extra pressure on Hinchcliffe because of that first win, it isn’t showing.

He has always been comfortable in the spotlight and has never been at a loss for words in an interview.
