ST. PETERBURG, FLA. - James Hinchcliffe did something on Sunday that Danica Patrick has not been able to do: Put the dayglo green GoDaddy Chevrolet in the winner’s circle.

One year ago, almost to the day, Hinchcliffe came out during driver introductions at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg for his first race in the No. 27 Andretti Autosport car after Patrick left for NASCAR wearing a long jet black wig immediately disarming all those who thought the job of taking over the highest profile ride in the IZOD Indycar Series might be too much for him.

On Sunday Hinchcliffe quashed that talk all together by passing three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves on the final restart with 26 laps to go in the 110 lap event and never looking back.

For the 26-year-old Oakville native — the self described Mayor of Hinchtown — it was his first win in North American open wheel racing’s top circuit in only his 32nd start.
