Danica's success must be kept in perspective
Competing is one thing, but Patrick actually winning the 500 is another story
By DEAN MCNULTY, QMI Agency

The best story of the 2013 Daytona 500 has been Danica Patrick, whether it was the revelation that she has a romantic relationship with Ricky Stenhouse Jr., or that she became the first woman to win the pole position for the Great American Race.

It doesn’t matter whether you love her or hate her, there was no ignoring her as NASCAR prepares for its Super Bowl on Sunday afternoon.

The important thing, however, is to not to get carried away.

Patrick is a rookie in the best stock car racing series in the world and to expect her to somehow immediately be among the leaders in the series is unrealistic.

Just as it is unrealistic to think Patrick can win the Daytona 500 on Sunday in the No. 10 Stewart Haas Racing Chevrolet.

Oh, it would make great headlines and even better stories but there is just too much standing in her way for it to happen.

Do you think the officiating has been fair in the Kings-Sharks series?
  Yes
  No
No ... but the refs seem to be evening it out themselves
