When NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Juan Pablo Montoya ventured into sports car racing last season for Chip Ganassi Racing, he stirred up plenty of controversy and left lots of hard feelings on the track with his take-no-prisoners style.
Enough that at in his final stint at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last July, several GRAND-AM regulars took a run at him.
Montoya was better behaved in helping Ganassi win its fifth Rolex 24 at Daytona championship in the No. 1 BMW Riley this past weekend but at least one other team — the second place No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette — was not happy at the result, particularly lead driver Max Angelelli.
The Italian driver accused GRAND-AM officials of favouring Ganassi in that it had penalized Corvette with an air restriction, cutting the car’s power.
